Dying without my dreams realized is one of my greatest fears. One that I don’t talk about often fearing that if I acknowledge it, it may happen. Yes, I know better than that.
If you died today, would you feel like you fulfilled your life’s purpose? My answer to that question is a resounding no. I feel like I have so much more to do.
How many of us today are doing what we love? Is your current job part of your purpose, or just a means to pay the bills? Do you feel like you’re fulfilling your life’s purpose? Do you even know how or what it is?
Why do we live life as if we’ll never die? Putting off things or postponing our desires. I’m guilty too. We are all on borrowed time. Such an old and cliche saying, but so true. There is one thing that is for certain, we are all going to die and none of us knows when. Do you know how many dreams are buried or cremated? Far too many to count, but living goes beyond your purpose.
After turning 40 and having several people around me pass (young and old), it’s made me realize some things. How much do you know about living trusts or wills? Do you have life insurance policies? I see an unbelievable amount of Go Fund Me campaigns asking for help to bury a loved one. When was the last time you had a physical? Followed up on a nagging symptom? Had a mammogram? Prostate exam? (Men) A Pap smear? (Women) Checked your blood pressure?
You can’t fulfill your life’s purpose from the grave, so making sure your insides (the things folks can’t see) match your external fly is what really matters.
I have dreams that require me being here. That require work. I was sitting in a staff meeting and they were discussing retirement and how they couldn’t wait to retire. How they were tired of working. Hear me when I say, I have no desire to work until I’m 65 or 75 for anyone other than myself. I want it to be my choice, not my sentence. I want you guys to really think about how our society is structured. Work to live until you die…my take!
Now please understand, I’m not knocking anyone who chooses that path, but that ain’t my ministry.
I want you to ask yourself, if I died today, would I be satisfied with the life I’ve lived so far? Would my family be okay? And if your answers are anything other than yes, start making plans today.
Until next time…🦋
