Fruit, Fruit & More Fruit

Lately friends I’ve been obsessed with fruit! Summer is by far my favorite season for fruit! Cherries, nectarines, watermelons, mango, peaches, pluots...I mean, does it get any better? Here in California, I must say we’re quite spoiled when it comes to access because most of this fruit we can get year round, but it hits different when it’s fresh from the tree during the summer months.

I’m always excited when summer hits because I know it’s time to enjoy crunchy, sweet, tart nectarines and delicious cherries! Two of my faves! Y’all no joke, I could eat nectarines and cherries every day of the year! White or yellow, bing or rainier, it doesn’t matter! I usually pair fruit with my savory breakfast items. I'm definitely a "need something sweet" with my breakfast (or any meal for that matter) kind of girl, so instead of donuts, pastries and sugary yogurts, I opt for fruit. Here are a few pics of what I have for breakfast! Looks delicious right?!?

Funny story! I can remember growing up, my oldest sister had a fruit tree in her backyard. No one knew what the fruit was, but I remember my mom going out, getting fruit from the tree and she decided she was going to eat it. Did I say we didn’t know what it was? Oh okay. Alseo, there were no fancy cellphone with Google searches. Well as we stood around and watched her eat it, we waited to see if she was going to die after consumption. When she didn't, we decided to give it a try! Y'all, it was delicious! Juicy, sweet, and that perfect hint of tart. I bet you mouth is watering from that description! It wasn’t until years later that we realized what we ate were white nectarines. Two things;

  1. I’m certain this is how all food was discovered, however...

  2. I now understand what happened in The Garden of Eden 😂...

Anyway, moving on, another perk of summer and living in California. You remember me saying how spoiled we were here in Cali right? Well, a special shout out to my Latino brothers and sisters with that amazing little cart serving up fresh, sweet and juicy mango! I swear, they have the best mangoes ever! A little chili...my goodness...and the corn! Stay focused Jazmine, this is about fruit!

As a Type 2 diabetic, I have to be cautious about what fruit I eat, and the amount. I won't go into great detail, but here’s a link that will help if you’re also a diabetic and wondering what fruits to eat and how much.

Also, here's a handy list of fruits by month I found on Google!

Well, due to disrespectful COVID, we're still on lockdown here in the Bay Area and around most of California. Outside is still dangerous, but, there are ways to get outside and have fun. Here are a few places in and around the bay where you can pick your own fruit! This is the perfect kid friendly, family activity, and it doesn’t hurt that when you pick the fruit yourself it’s usually discounted 😉! Both locations show open. I will say, Larry's is one of our faves! Fruits and vegetables galore, and so very affordable!
